Reading the Odyssey I realise how the modern fixation of celebrity came about - it is a replacement for religion. These Greek Gods manipulate humanity by all kinds of tricks - lots of of the time for their own amusement. Coupling with mortals (civilians in Hurley's memorable phrase) is allowed but generally backfires - on us. How else to explain Ice Dancing star Jade Goody's ex-partner the wife beating villainous scumbag Jack whatever being described as a sleb. Defining a sleb as someoone famous for being famous rather than achievement must now expand to someone who once coupled with a sleb. Just like the Royals the lists are ever expanding - soon we will have of gods/ saints suitable for each day, each family, each emotion.
When we stopped believing in Gods they died - let's do the same for every worthless piece of publicity hungry psycholigically damaged person who wants to be famous. Imagine a simple slow country intro as I sing...
